I started questioning on the idea of individuality, to try to understand the whole, the contemporary world and the direction that humanity is taking. From a micro perspective to a macro.
> the first question was about IDENTITY and the fight we have between ourselfes: who I am, how I want to appear, why these difficulties in expressing my innerself.
The outcome was a 'fighting' performance I had, meanwhile a singer was screaming what do you do when you feel fear: do you freeze, do you run, what is sensibility, what is responsibility.
> the second question was about the relationship between humans and internet: what it changes in term of sociability, of perceiving ourselfes, in the relationship between the individual and the community; and the study about Postmodernism (Lyotard, Bauman) was helpful to acquire a more critic perspective.
The outcome was a sort of Avant-Hyper Manifesto (study of A Manifesto) and the the Hyper World Analysis:
> the research about the relationship between individual and di-vidual, fragmented personality and avatars.
> One of the first ideas I had was to make an interactive mask (aesthetic study based on biologic organism) that communicates through lights.
- a new way of communicating, showing emotions without using words;
- a possibility to show different personalities that everyone has;
- the impossibility of a camera to recognize and filed people through facial recognition;
- avatars = rebels;
- early theater.
>> The mask was a part of the never-realized performance about fighting and identity: a performer is wearing the mask acting a fight-dance with an interactive video in the background (inspiration taken from Loie Fuller and the Euritmia concept by Rudolph Steiner).
Just the interactive video (used as scenography) was presented in the Synagogue of Groningen for the Orbit Fest (lighting festival) with the title 'Hyperworld'. It was the poetic representation of internet that surrounds us as users.
A poetic understanding of virtual space, that was showed in the REAL SPACE and that was playing with visitors.
> Keeping on researching, I found the topic of 'DREAM' the perfect common point to explore again the space in term of VIRTUAL, REAL, UNREAL; I investigated them especially in the video-experiment 'DejavuTM' that I made using a videogame that simulates Reality: The Sims 3. I re-made and lived again one of the three dreams that I had in my life and I still remember.
> At that moment I had the idea of making a trilogy (Heaven, Limbo and Hell, like Dante Alighieri) of my dreams and occupying and using the phisical and virtual space of the screen as canvas.
>> One of the recent ideas is to make an interview/dialogue between my The Sims Avatar and my fffjpg avatar talking about identity, Infosphere, etc.
> Another interesting experiment was to play live in Amsterdam as fffjpg colective for an Experimental festival. We played with the noise to create an immersive environment helped by the big projection of our videos in the cinema.
> About the idea of Occupying the virtual space, I started to code during the Quaratene. I see coding as a way to manipulate and to shape the internet/virtual space. The first outcomes was the creation of a virtual hotel where people/visitors could interact in each room while they listen to the fffjpg noise and allowing it to influence them.
> During these Quarantene days, I started to think in politic terms of what is the artist now, what he/she/it should do, how to partecipate in a world that is showing a lot of lacks in the system, how to build possibile futures, utopias. And for now the outcome is a virtual sit-in that probably it will happen in one year and a Website (SURF=Surfacing Unused Realities Forum) that helps people to connect and to organize virtual meetings about creativity, activism, future, networks (the first virtual meeting took place on the 10th of May 2020).
